It’s against the law to cyberbully?
Is it? And can I sue? Let’s just say i’ve been cyberbullied before
Someone asked for what happened, and it was a site called smashboards that insulted me. As for where I live, it’s in california, is it legal there?

It’s illegal in many states. Depends on where you’re from.
I’m not sure if it’s a definite law anywhere yet, but I think they want to make one for it. Basically they say if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t type it. I’m not sure you can sue, but if you have proof of the convo and know who it is, you can call your local police station and make a complaint against the person and they should do something about it. Hope I could help!
Only for people who don’t understand the First Amendment.
Which is most Americans.
If you are in Canada, OTOH, you had better hold your tongue. It isn’t as bad as being in an islamic country, but it is close.
If you have been cyberbullied, post the details and I and my cyber friends will kick some cyber butt for you. And if this goes to RL, we have some strategies for you as well.
It varies from state to state. If you have been severely psychologically damaged [you don't have to put it that way] you can report it. The law can’t do much as of now, but it will stop them from bothering you. Legislators are working on laws to stop cyber bullying, so it won’t be long until they are in effect. I hope this helps.
Legislation geared at penalizing cyberbullying has been introduced in a number of states including New York, Missouri, Rhode Island and Maryland. At least seven states passed laws against digital harassment in 2007. Dardenne Prairie of Springfieled, Missouri passed a city ordinance making online harassment a misdemeanor. The city of St. Charles, Missouri has passed a similar ordinance. Missouri is among other states where lawmakers are pursuing state legislation, with a task forces expected to have “cyberbullying” laws drafted and implemented. In June, 2008, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) and Rep. Kenny Hulshof (R-Mo.) proposed a federal law that would criminalize acts of cyberbullying.
Lawmakers are seeking to address cyberbullying with new legislation because there’s currently no specific law on the books that deals with it. A fairly new federal cyberstalking law might address such acts, according to Aftab, but no one has been prosecuted under it yet. The proposed federal law would make it illegal to use electronic means to “coerce, intimidate, harass or cause other substantial emotional distress.”
In August 2008, the California state legislature passed one of the first laws in the country to deal directly with cyberbullying. The legislation, Assembly Bill 86, gives school administrators the authority to discipline students for bullying others offline or online.
A recent ruling first seen in the UK determined that it is possible for an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to be liable for the content of sites which it hosts, setting a precedent that any ISP should treat a notice of complaint seriously and investigate it immediately.
A law passed in California against cyber-bullying will take effect, January 1, 2008, allowing schools to suspend or expel students who engage in cyber-bullying.
